Fantasy Freaks and Gaming GeeksTORN Pal and author Ethan Gilsdorf has agreed to blog his West coast book tour for us!

Tinseltown as Middle-earth

I’ve been on the road non-stop since September 1, promoting my book Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks, and I have met many a fantasy and Tolkien fan as I’ve traveled from New York City to the South, the Midwest, around Boston and New England (my home) and the West Coast. I’m in Los Angeles now and have been reflecting on the meaning of Tolkien and his ground-breaking creation. Sometimes the dreams of Hollywood seem more distant than Middle-earth. Fantasy Freaks and Gaming GeeksOur friend and author Ethan Gilsdorf has a pretty cool contest announcement on his site that I’d like to share with you. Take a look at ‘The Great Geek Giveaway! Contest’: What is your geekiest secret? Your freakiest fandom moment? Your most embarrassing gaming gaffe? In a brief essay, photo or video, we want you to spill the beans.

The folks behind the book Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks want to know about that time you stalked your favorite Star Trek celebrity to a coffee shop, made a pilgrimage to a fantasy movie location, watched an entire season of Battlestar Galactica in one sitting, cooked a hobbit feast for your friends, or waited in line at midnight to buy a new video game. Or perhaps you have a photo of yourself posing with your fave SF/fantasy celebrity. Or perhaps you’ll shoot a video tribute to your geek lover, or give us a video tour of your collection of Star Wars Pez dispensers. Whatever the geeky, gamer, or freakish tick or obsession, we want to see, read, and watch it. Continue reading “Cool Contest for All Geeks!”

Hobbits on WeathertopForum member batik thought this trilogy screening at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, TX, might be of interest: “this all-day event is an annual Alamo tradition as old as the ancients…or whenever RETURN OF THE KING came out. Each year we must gather to recount the epic quest of the hobbit Frodo and his merry band of dwarves, wizards, elves and Viggo’s. We snuggle up together and watch the entire LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY – nearly 12 hours – and get loaded to the gills with food, beer and wine all inspired by Tolkien’s Middle Earth!” The screening will be held on Sunday, November 29 starting at 10:30 a.m. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, November 3, at noon. More..
