Long Expected Party LogoGreetings, Hobbit friends! It is I, Eowyn, your roving reporter, coming to you with news concerning A Long Expected Party, being held in Shaker Village, Kentucky beginning on September 25th. Word has reached my ears that all of the rooms but seven have been rented at the Village, so if you have been thinking about coming, now is the time to act. As a bonus exclusive, a local photographer has snapped a shot of the much-rumored Bag End, being built by the organizers, to be proudly displayed during the event. Visit the Long Expected Party event site today for more information!

A Long-expected PartyEowyn Rohan writes in: Greetings Middle-earth denizens! The good folks involved with A Long-Expected Party wish to announce the addition of award-winning Celtic singer Kate Brown to our ever-growing list of guests joining us in Kentucky this coming September. Kate is very well-known in the local area for her beautiful soprano voice and her love of fantasy adventure. Space is rapidly running out, so don’t delay any further in securing your place at the best Party any Hobbit could hope to find. A Long-Expected Party is scheduled for September 25-28, 2008 in Shaker Village, Kentucky.

Tolkien SocietyMany people have enjoyed the Tolkien Weekends at Sarehole Mill over the last eight years. Though the name has changed to the “Middle-earth Weekend,” all the usual attractions for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien can be found. This year’s weekend will focus on “Myths and Monsters” mixing Tolkien’s local connections, his translation and academic works on Beowulf and one of his earliest essays in story writing which featured “a great green dragon”

There will be dragons patrolling the field and, no doubt, serving as targets for those who wish to emulate Bard’s defeat of Smaug with the Bowmen of Swanshurst. Other attractions include a falconry display, rope and food historians and in the Mill café there is an exhibition by Bob Blackham (author of The Roots of Tolkien’s Middle-Earth) of Postcards from The Shire. Middle-earth Weekend 2008 will be held at Sarehole Mill and Recreation Ground, Cole Bank Road, Hall Green, Birmingham on May 17 & 18, 2008. Thanks to our friend Ian from the Tolkien Society for news about the event! Read More
