Fans of ‘The Simpsons’ got a small LOTR reference in tonight’s episode according to TheOneRing.net message boarder, Draug the Unspeakably Violent. Marge is walking by during this college class *held in the mid-1990’s*, she overhears Comic Book Guy tell his students: “…And that is why “The Lord of the Rings” is unfilmable!”. The episode is ‘The 90’s Show’ and while the east coasters have missed out already, west coasters can still catch it live when it airs tonight. [The Simpsons Homepage]

deej writes: I just wanted to pass along that Turner Classic Movies will be premiering The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King during their 31 Days of Oscar celebration on Sunday, February 10th at 9:30pm (E.S.T.).
Viggo Mortensen is prepared to snub the Oscars. The 49-year-old actor is up for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of a ruthless Russian gangster in ‘Eastern Promises,’ but will boycott next month’s prestigious Academy Awards if the Hollywood writers’ strike is still unresolved. “If there’s a strike I will not go but I have a feeling they’ll solve it. I hope they do. I’m sure my mother would like to see me on TV,” Mortensen said Mortensen is up against George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones and Johnny Depp for the Best Actor accolade at the awards ceremony on February 24. History Channel’s Monster Quest is going to be investigating ‘real’ Hobbits in an episode premiering on January 16th 10PM ET. I’m not sure Bilbo et al would take too kindly to being called apes, but here is the official episode description: “A MonsterQuest expedition will deploy researchers and the latest technology into the jungle, searching for evidence of a creature natives describe as half man, half ape.” Check your local listings for airings in your area. I happened to be flipping through channels over the holiday and ran across a marathon of The Science Channel’s ‘How It’s Made.’ You are probably saying, yea, so what?! Well, this particular episode was on how pinball machines are made and the pinball machine they were making was a The Lord of the Rings one! After further investigation, it looks like you can watch this episode online at the Science Channel website. If you don’t feel like watching it online, it looks like this episode is airing again on Jan 19th. [How It’s Made]
