Medieval style paintings from the Russian editions of the Lord of the Rings

June 19, 2014 at 9:34 pm by Kelvarhin  -

tumblr_n5ku42BUPN1qd2mzdo2_500Egelantier shared these medieval Russian Orthodox style paintings from the Russian editions of Lord of the Rings on their tumblr page.  We think they’re pretty amazing and have shared a few of them with you.

My childhood Russian edition of Lord of the Rings had the most amazing, medievally styled illustrations by Sergey Yuhimov.

I haven’t appreciated them when I was a child (I obviously wanted something more aesthetically obvious), but now I think they’re just – really badass.
