Calling all Middle-earth artists! To celebrate the upcoming Home Video release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, we here at TheOneRing.net have got together with Warner Bros. to bring you an exciting COMPETITION — ‘Show us your passion for Smaug’!
What do you have to do?
We know you love the unassessably wealthy one — as Peter Jackson and his team realized him on the big screen. We want to see that passion poured into your own homage to the Greatest of Calamities! You might choose to paint, sketch, embroider or sculpt (or even bake!) your Smaug — the only restriction is that it must be original art created with your own fair hands (so no computer generated wyverns, please!). Then send us a photo (or three) of your Smaug homage for a chance to win some great prizes!
Who can enter?
The competition is open worldwide, to all aged 13 and older. There will be two categories — Youth (age 13 to 16) and Adult (age 17 and above).
What can you win?
Here are the goodies you can win:
- First prize Adults: Orcrist replica from The Noble Collection, and a regular DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- Runner up Adults: Limited Collector’s Edition DVD and Blu-ray of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- First prize Youth: Smaug pendant and necklace from The Noble Collection, plus the regular DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- Runner up Youth: Thorin bookmark and pen set from The Noble Collection, plus the regular DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
All four winning artworks will also be displayed both on TheOneRing.net and on WB’s official Hobbit Movie Facebook page!
You have ten days to create your image of Smaug the Tremendous! To enter the competition, complete the entry form, and attach to it photos of your handiwork (up to three, with no one image exceeding 3 megebytes). You must submit your entry by midnight UTC on Tuesday April 8th, the day that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug becomes available for Home Video purchase in the USA. The entries will then be judged by a panel of TORn staffers, and the winners will be announced on Monday 14th April.
The staff will judge based on originality, skill, design and also just what makes us smile — we know we’ll get MANY fantastic entries and it will be a very hard decision, but we’ll do our best to pick our favourites!
