Happy Hobbit Day! Latest HOBBIT poster!

September 22, 2012 at 12:52 pm by greendragon  -

As revealed by PJ on his facebook page today – the new ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ poster.   What a Hobbit Day gift!  That’s one determined looking hobbit!  Go and enjoy!

And in other news – our good friends over at Tolkiendrim.com have shared a report that ‘An Unexpected Journey’ will be 123 minutes long.  This is according to Parisien cinema ‘Le Grand Rex’ and, as the folks at Tolkiendrim.com point out, it could be pure speculation.  After all, the first Hobbit movie is, at this time, still in post production, so it’s unlikely that the final duration is known.  Still,  it’s interesting to speculate.  Two hours and three minutes?  To paraphrase a line from another well known movie, ‘Aren’t you a little short for a Peter Jackson movie?’

Interesting contrast – Frodo had the ring, but Bilbo has the sword!

Actually, this does make a lot of sense. Dividing two films into three means reducing the length of the films. So why did Peter Jackson say they had filmed enough material for three? My guess is that if they had proceeded with two films much of the character building scenes for the supporting dwarves would’ve been reserved for the blue-ray. Now they can use it.

So for those concerned that the films were going to be bloated unnecessarily, be at ease. They won’t be diluted. They’ll just be shorter.

I will be slightly disappointed if any of the films are less than 3 hours (except maybe the last one because I don’t want a feature-length battle scene ahem I’m looking at you ‘Avengers’). Oh well, even if this is true the second one will probably be the longest film- The Desolation of Smaug has to not only live up to its name but cover all the Mirkwood (spiders, elves etc) stuff aswell…

  4. In that case, I’m only hoping that the film that I have been waiting seven years for is worth seeing. The films probably won’t be that short. Perhaps 1hr and 30 mins like any other casual film, or maybe two hours for the final films. The Return of the king was roughly three hours long, but the book on it’s own was long enough. It will be interesting to see one book be split into three feature length movies. Hopefully the final film will be the longest!

“Aren’t you a little short for a Peter Jackson movie?” Where is that quote from?

  6. Pyro Geknik says:

So… They announce that they’ll have three movies instead of two. Now they also previously said that the first movie would be about 2.5 hours long.

Seems to me that they’re paring off .5 hours from the two movies to give the third movie and hour. That way they only have to pad an additional hour for three two hour movies.
