Tweeted first by BBC Entertainment Reporter Lizo (here), apparently Bilbo Baggins, aka Martin Freeman, has let slip that fellow ‘Sherlock’ actor Benedict Cumberbatch has a role in The Hobbit. Seems like a good pick for casting, but what role will he play? Share your thoughts in our comments, discussion board and on facebook! (Personally, I think he looks rather Elven. But his name is so Hobbitish!)

A Wellywood sign to celebrate the capital’s film industry will be built along the hillside next to the Miramar Cutting. The Hollywood-style sign will be 3.5 metres high and 28m wide. It is understood to cost several hundred thousand dollars and is intended to be ready for the Rugby World Cup in September. Veteran Wellington film director Geoff Murphy could barely stop laughing when told yesterday that the idea would proceed. More..

From ajc.com: Authorities say a University of Georgia student has been accused of spray painting “Frodo Lives” and other references to “Lord of the Rings” books and movies. The Athens Banner-Herald reports that university police charged 20-year-old Fredrick Dylan Cantrell with a dozen counts of criminal trespass, four counts of criminal damage and one count of marijuana possession.

A police search warrant states that “Lord of the Rings” graffiti has appeared at dozens of places on the Georgia campus, including restrooms, bus stops, sidewalks and on buildings.

Cantrell’s lawyer, Morris Wiltshire, said his client thought the message of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ was important. He said the series of books has meaning to his client, who thought it was a worthy message to broadcast.

But it seems that the announcement that has everyone well and truly buzzing is that Stephen Fry is set to play the Master of Laketown.

Still what’s caught your keen eyes and ears over the past couple weeks?
