Peter Jackson has just posted on his Facebook page that Rob Kazinsky, cast in the role of Fili, is going to be leaving The Hobbit due to personal reasons.

I am sad to report that Rob Kazinsky, who was cast in the role of Fili, is having to leave The Hobbit and return home, for personal reasons.  Rob has been terrific to work with and his enthusiasm and infectious sense of humour will be missed by all of us. I should say that Rob’s departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili’s storyline. At the moment we are shooting scenes featuring Bilbo without the Dwarves, which will give us time to find a new Fili. I’ll keep everyone posted with updates as they come.

Cheers,

Peter J

This is sad news for many of us too who came to know Rob over these past few months, and especially last week, after seeing him in The Hobbit’s ‘Start of Production’ video.

Your family in TORn will miss you dear Rob… we hope you’re going to be fine, and we wish you all the best in whatever you do and wherever life leads you.

UPDATE: Rob has tweeted the following on his Twitter account:

Thanks for all your support, Peter and team have been the most wonderful and supportive team to work for and it’s with a truly sad heart that things have turned out this way. The Hobbit will go on to be as great as i’ve seen and I will miss the family and friends that i’ve here, From every disaster i’ve tried to make an opportunity. “john d rokerfeller”

Didn’t he use walking support in the vlog? Did he hurt himself somehow?

  2. Tweedledee

    Noooooooooooooooooooooo! :(((((

  3. Excited as I am to see the production going, I wouldn’t mind at all if they stopped it for 1 or 2 weeks to give Rob time to solve his problems and then go back. He was already one of my favourite dwarves.

I assume you mean favourite characters from the book, as we haven’t seen him acting in character yet and from what I was told by a family member his soap acting was as a “bad boy”.

@ Elainiwen: The walking support? I think he was just mucking about on set, I saw that part where he waved some walking sticks at the camera but that may have been in jest. It’s sad he is leaving but PJ has a good eye for characters, you won’t be let down 😀

  5. Home School

he just had to go home cos his girlfriend broke a nail. good riddance.

Can anything else go wrong with this movie? I swear, it’s like there is a curse on it or something…I hope all is well Rob though.

    Wow, this is a shocking news…. Very sad…. Very….

According to Rob’s latest tweets it’s a health issue which will be fine in time.
Hmmm speculation abounds , I for one was impressed by him during the press launch so good luck to him in the future.

Given Rob in no longer on the project, best wishes to him , who will take the role of Fili ?

    What about Clive Standen

If Rob is not coming back, yeah, I think he’s a good stand in.

The filming crew hasn’t been in this situation the first time though. Remember Viggo? He was a last minute stand in, and now many people can’t think of better actor for Aragorn. They’ll survive thought it somehow.

After seeing Rob at the press launch I was impressed by him, I do hope he does get another part in the movie perhaps a cameo.
Clive Standen has been mentioned in rumours before as a possible Bard but I think he is too young for that role (as Stuart Townsend was for Aragorn).
Given he knows Richard Armitage and is a fully trained rider, swords man and archer not to mention a pretty good actor I think he is a great choice for Fili. BTW we all know Viggo was a late replacement for Townsend in LOTR did you guys forget that Sean Connery was PJ’s first choice for Gandalf? Who here can see anyone doing a better job of their roles then Sir Ian and Viggo?

I knew about Townsend, but I didn’t know about Connery. Yet… I wouldn’t replace Sir Ian and Viggo, not even with the original role considerations.

  12. That’s very sad, especially after reading that interview of his. In it, he told that when he learned he got the role, he sat, hugging his dog, and cried happily. 🙁

So sad yet so young! He was lucky to get the break when it came, to star in a blockbuster.

Peter has given him a great send off via his facebook and Rob returned it in kind via twitter.

It is time to move on!

I hope he has a veeeeery good reason to leave this production, surely there are thousands of actors who would love to take his place.

Or Michael MacKenzie…he is looking for his ‘fit’ in a movie and an avid J R Tolkien fan…might be a good fit for Fili…looks like Rob Kazinsky

His Wiki page now is showing: “On 22 October 2010, it was announced that Kazinsky had been cast in the upcoming film The Hobbit. He would have played Fili, a member of the Company of Dwarves,[10] but in April 2011, Kazinsky resigned from the role due to personal reasons having been diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia at the Wellington Blood & Cancer Centre in New Zealand. This has been reported in the New Zealand online magazine Stuff.co.uk. Stuff reported that a source at the hospital who wished to remain anonymous had come forward and had advised that they had been responsible for the initial diagnosis of Robert earlier in the month. The source “wished him well with his treatment in the United Kingdom”.”
I do hope that isn’t so but of course wish him a speedy recovery.

Stuart Townsend should be given a second opportunity now.
