In yesterday’s Daily Variety, there was a great story titled, “Rings Cycle: Tolkien Trilogy posed an otherworldly challenge.” The article focuses on costume designer Ngila Dickson’s efforts creating the realism of Middle-earth. One of the more intriguing facts contained within the story: “… I think we made 15,000 costumes.” Wow! (Can you send me one for Halloween??) I have attached scans for those of you who can’t get yesterday’s Variety.

Because some 100 million readers have dipped into “The Lord of the Rings” since its initial publication in 1954, it’s fair to say that the fantastical literature of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien has never needed any help from either Hollywood or a little Chicago theater. [More]

I was just watching the Food Network Canada of all channels when an ad came on for a LOTR “Trivia Quest” which is supposedly being launched on November 10th.
The ad basically showed a few clips from the most recent trailer as well as some flashes of some of the prizes (the only one I can remember is what looked like a customized VW Bug). It seemed sort of like a teaser for the contest, not giving out any details except to say that it was being launched November 10th.
