Chalk Farm Gallery presents “The Tolkien Art of Ted Nasmith”

an exhibition of original paintings by Ted Nasmith

20th September to 28th October

Chalk Farm Gallery is pleased to announce it’s 4th exhibition of world-renowned Tolkien artist, Canadian born Ted Nasmith. The exhibition opens on the 20th September with the private view . Ted Nasmith will be here in the UK for the exhibition, at the opening he will be teaming up with musician Casper Reiff from the Tolkien ensemble to present a selection of songs inspired by the author. The show continues until the 28th October 2001 and if his previous exhibitions are anything to go by, we are expecting a sell out show.

Ted Nasmith has worked on many Tolkien publications including “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and has had full calendars of his art commissioned by Harper Collins. The 2002 Tolkien calendar “The Fellowship of the Ring” is out now, and these original paintings will form part of his exhibition. He is currently working on the 2003 “The Two Towers” and the 2004 “The Return of the King”. Ted was the sole illustrator of the recently released “The Silmarillion”, and perhaps his greatest accolade was the approval given to his work by Tolkien himself before his death.

We would like to invite you to attend the private view…

Kind Regards

Paul McGuinness

Only in dire times would a parly be called at the House of Elrond, bringing Man, Elf and Istari together to discuss the faith of Middle-Earth and it’s inhabitants. But these are dire times indeed, and as the threat of the Enemy looms over the world as a shadow, the Council of Elrond commences. This weekend, we invite you to come discuss a chapter that would change the lives of nine people and save millions of others:

Book II, Chapter II: The Council of Elrond

A difficult task has already been accomplished by four hobbits who, with the help of Strider have brought the One Ring safely to Rivendell, protecting it from Sauron’s Ringwraiths. But now that it is here, the time has come for a decision to be made: what shall become of it?

Such is the levity of this decision, Elrond has requested the presence of a representative of the great races of Middle-Earth: Boromir of the men of Gondor, Legolas of the Elves of Mirkwood and Glóin of the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain. But just as they are unlike in body in mind, they are undecided as what to do with the ring.

Should it be destroyed, as Gimli the dwarf wishes?Should it be used as a tool against Sauron? Or should it be cast back into the deepest sea, and beyond the reach of any member of Middle-Earth? As the counsel of Gandalf, none of these. A Fellowship shall go forth to Mordor, and throw the ring into the Cracks of Doom, and with it’s unmaking bring down the foundation of Sauron’s evil power itself.

These were the decisions faced by the Council of Elrond, and it is these decisions along with many others that we hope to discuss with you this weekend! Do you believe that Boromir was right to wield the ring? Or Gimli to destroy it? Was the decision of Gandalf to have Frodo bear it into Mordor foolhardy?

Whether you share one of these opinions or none at all, we want to hear from you this weekend! And don’t forget, we are giving you three opportunities to join in this great debate.

Tsa Tsa Lopy tells us that another batch of brand new Lord of the Ring posters (Fan art, more likely-Xo) have become available on the German Lord of the Rings online shop, Elbenwald. The posters look fantastic, especially the Fellowship montage and the eery Aragorn/Nazgul image. [More]

Xoanon here, I just wanted to say that I find this ‘NZ Evening Post’ article a bit of ‘mountains out of mole-hills’ here. I find that they have glorified a sound byte, snatched from Premiere Magazine, and have taken it a bit too far. If you read the article we posted here, you can see Elijah was simply remarking about the two projects, and the fact that Star Wars is an established movie genre and that PJ and our crew are breaking new ground, that is all, there is no ‘tension’ between productions. So take this following article with a grain of salt.

The Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood says there was tension between the $650 million epic’s stars and those in Star Wars: Episode II during a visit to its sets in Sydney last year. [More]

I just recieved my September edition of Maxim magazine. On page 48 in the Maxim Calender it lists Saturday Sept 22 as Hobbit Day, listing: It’s Hobbit Day! celebrate by wishing you had at least one friend who wasn’t an imaginary inhabitant of Middle Earth. There is also small picture of Bilbo from the animated hobbit movie attached.
