I was just reading through the Tolkien Society homepage and saw that Ted Nasmith’s paintings will be for SALE at the Chalk Farm Gallery in London. This will be on September 21st. Considering I might be still in London then, I’d love to try to go.

Anyone living in Toronto who is interested in seeing some of LOTR’s stars on the big screen before December 19 might want to attend Toronto’s Britpics festival.

Two of the movies being screened involve LOTR cast: GOING OFF BIG TIME on July 21 starring Bernard Hill (Theoden) and THE JOLLY BOYS’ LAST STAND on July 24 starring Andy Serkis (Gollum). Check out www.torontobritpics.com for details.

Tehanu sends along more info on Laurence Makoare and his role as Lurtz. [More]

We’ve had further confirmation that Lurtz is indeed played by rising Maori actor Lawrence Makoare. He’s acting next to Temuera Morrison in ‘Crooked Earth” and he’s also appearing in a Maori-language version of “A Merchant of Venice,” so he’s a busy boy.

In “Crooked Earth” Makaore plays Kahu, a charismatic firebrand who has turned his village into a lawless dope-growing wasteland. Seems like he’s getting typecast in the orc-leader roles….”
