A few minor snippets about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies out of Denver Comic Con last weekend.
Sylvester McCoy, who is not travelling to San Diego Comic Con, indicated that he’ll be in London around July 18 for pickup work. It seems as though Philippa Boyens will be there to directing the additional dialogue recording with Peter Jackson overseeing things from New Zealand.
We also hear Jackson may schedule a trip to London around the time of San Diego Comic Con.
Finally, The Hollywood Reporter has a very brief report on the CineEurope convention of international theatre distributors in Barcelona where Warner Bros. screened a tape that included a recorded message from Peter Jackson. (To our minds, despite the “never-seen footage” remark, it sounds a lot like a re-run of what was shown to distributors at CinemaCon back in late March).
Vandenberg brought a taped message from Peter Jackson and some never-seen footage from the third and final Hobbit movie, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which will herald the end of the filmmaker’s 16 years of bringing the work of J.R.R. Tolkien to the big screen. Jackson thanked the exhibition community for being “supportive every step of the way” with his quest from the Lord of the Rings to the Hobbit franchise, describing his relationship with foreign theaters as a partnership. After screening the footage, Vandenberg noted that she and the team are sure the all-star franchise-ender will deliver an “exceptional performance” at the box office in December 2014.
