FigwitLOTR alumni Bret McKenzie’s HBO series “Flight of the Conchords,” has received several Emmy nominations for its second season including best comedy series and best writing for a comedy series. They dub themselves “formerly New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo”

The show grew from the comedy musical duo McKenzie forms with fellow New Zealander Jemaine Clement. The pair played comedy clubs and concert halls and produced albums before landing the HBO show the pair co-writes with James Bobin, all three received the writing nomination while Clement received an acting nod for his work on the show.

Bobin was also nominated for directing the comedy series. The song “Carol Brown,” also was given a nod for original songs and music. A technical award was also received for sound mixing.

You can watch the Conchord’s song “Frodo, Don’t Wear The Ring,” below from the first season on HBO.
