From Demosthenes:
On May 25th, 2001 we had our first real preview of the Fellowship of the Ring. The two minute teaser was our first real look at the story and the look of the forthcoming films. This week, Hall of Fire heads into
movie-land, hosting an in-depth discussion of this recently released trailer .
Fellowship of the Ring: Trailer 1 — dream … or nightmare?
What’s your opinion? Is it good for Tolkien fans? Is it good for non-Tolkien fans? Come to Hall of Fire this weekend and share your thoughts. Some of the trailer highlights we’ll be discussing include:
The scenes at the Council of Elrond; the voice of Gollum and Elijah Wood’s accent; the dialogue and how it compares with the dialogue in the book; and the visual effects.
For those who want to refresh their memory (and aren’t worried about spoilers) here is the link to theonering.net’s extensive frame by frame analysis of the preview.

It’s sure to be a fantastic discussion, so why not drop on by to one of our 3 scheduled sessions? Anyone and everyone is invited and first timers are always welcome!

TORNado Iarwain sends in this:“I would just like to inform you that Decipher held a playtesting at Origins. It was very interesting to play the game. I can’t endulge you with too much info, but I can say that not many (if any) left with bad comments. I thought that it was really fun to play. Just letting you know. For more look on the LOTR message board at Decipher.” [More]

Moviegoers won’t be able to see the big-screen version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” until Dec. 19, but unlike all the new “Star Wars” episodes, they can easily find out how the story of good vs. evil turns out in advance. Already, sales of Tolkien books are four times what they were in 1999 -with paperbacks and leatherbound volumes of “The Lord of the Rings” moving quickly off shelves at Barnes & Noble and previously untapped venues like Wal-Mart. A few people are writing in saying they’re seeing the FOTR Trailer in front of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. This does not mean that this is the case everywhere, but why not test your luck?

I’m pleased to report that TORN will have full representation again for Comic-Con International, held each year in San Diego, California. This is, “America’s biggest comic book and pop culture event,” and TheOneRing.net will be on board with a one-hour presentation for Thursday, July 19, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. This blurb will appear in the convention’s program publication:
TheOneRing.net is excited to take you one step closer to the Lord of the Rings movies at Comic-Con! TORN will offer a one hour presentation highlighting locations, cast, crew, movie information, and rumors. Come meet some of TheOneRing.net staff and take a bite out of Tolkien fandom!
Our staffers at this con will be yours truly and the illustrious Quickbeam of GreenBooks fame. We look forward to meeting and greeting you TORNados and the rest of the folks at the Con. If you miss us at the presentation, we’re sure to be near the LOTR New Line action too.
To read more about Comic-Con or find out how to get there link here. You may not find TORN on the internet program yet as we just finalized this plan, but don’t doubt we’ll be there! Drop me a line if you have any questions or you think you’ll come see the show.
