Scott Collura writes: Even though the last film in Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings trilogy came out a year ago, the series really wont come to an end until next month when the directors Special Extended DVD Edition is released. As with the Extended Editions of the first two films, this is a completely new cut of ROTK, including the addition of a whopping 50 minutes of footage to the theatrical version.
