Midway Games has announced the long-awaited release of Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, the world’s first massively multiplayer online game based on JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. Chance Thomas composed and conducted the live orchestral and choral score for the game. The orchestra and choir were recorded and mixed at LA East Studios in Salt Lake City, UT. Concert Master was Lenny Browse. Chief engineer was Glen Neibur. Hundreds of additional vocal and live instrumental overlay tracks (Hammer Dulcimer, Penny Whistle, Highland Pipes, Pedal Harp, Fiddle, Bass Flute, English Horn) and small acoustic ensembles were recorded at Lakeview Audio in Orem, UT. Chief engineer was Steve Lerud. All live sessions were produced by Chance Thomas. Additional tracking, mixing and editing were completed at HUGEsound near Yosemite, California. [More]

London, April 28 (ANI): Lord of the Rings admirers might be left disappointed after seeing the stage adaptation of the best selling novel. Fans hoping for a recreation of director Peter Jackson’s vision of Middle Earth might be disenchanted, for the show’s set designer Rob Howell has never seen the films. While the film adaptation shows the hairy-toed hero Frodo Baggins battle it out against the evil of Mordor, Howell consciously stayed away from the movie vision and stuck to JRR Tolkien’s original story. On Saturday morning, the BBC radio program “The Ticket” did a feature on “The Children of Hurin,” including what sounds to be portions of the same “Today” interview with Adam Tolkien, Christopher’s son and The Professor’s grandson. Here’s the link, but I think it may be active for only a week. For best results, select “RealPlayer” for playback, and when it’s loaded, slide into the program about 12 minutes. After a long break, Hall of Fire finally returns to host a discussion on the very recently released Children of Hurin. Scrupulously edited together from JRR’s manuscripts by Christopher Tolkien, the tragic tale of Hurin’s children is not new to many fans of Tolkien’s writings, having been previously revealed in one form or another in the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales and the History of Middle Earth. However, Children of Hurin presents the tale without the severe abridgement of the Silmarillion, or the confusing annotated form that is present in Unfinished Tales and HOME. [More]
