A Cotswold licensee is preparing for an invasion of hobbits after his pub was christened the real life Prancing Pony from fantasy adventure Lord of the Rings fame. Keith Pendry, leaseholder of the Bell Inn in Moreton-in-Marsh, was given a special print by a branch of the J R R Tolkien Society after painstaking research revealed the pub to be the inspiration behind Middle Earth’s most famous pub. He’s Mr. Grin in “Alex Rider: Stormbreaker,” an assistant to scientist Nikola Tesla (David Bowie) in “The Prestige” and Spike, a henchman of the villainous Toad (Ian McKellen) in the animated “Flushed Away,” opening Friday.
A collaboration between Aardman Animation (“Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit”) and DreamWorks (“Shrek”), “Flushed Away” follows the story of Roddy St. James (Hugh Jackman), a pampered pet mouse who accidentally takes a dip in the toilet only to be sucked down into a bustling underworld populated with street-smart rats (Serkis, Bill Nighy) and potential gal-pals (Kate Winslet).
