Gandalf has joined the opposition to the controversial Wellywood sign. Sir Ian McKellen, who played the famous wizard in The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, says he is baffled by Wellington Airport’s effort to erect the sign, which would mimic the famous Hollywood version.
“I think that would be a very odd sign to put up,” he told The Dominion Post from London yesterday. “It isn’t like New Zealand film-makers want to be like the American film industry – they absolutely don’t,” he said. Wellington was “stuffed with people who don’t want to work in Hollywood”. More.

In the age old battle of which ‘trilogy’ is better, we all know the correct answer is The Lord of the Rings. Of course, there is no comparison. Lucas destroyed his original invention with poorly executed re-editing, bad cg and….sorry, started getting off track there. (*cough* Let’s look at the Academy Award wins too folks…) But Anyway…. Ringer Elf Wannabee has posted a link to a video at Parallel Universe that attempts to solve the situation, once and for all, in a battle to the death. I won’t spoil it for you, but the video sucks. 😛 [View Video] [Discuss in our Forum] And if were not already aware, we have a whole forum devoted to these types of ‘battles.’ It’s called ‘The Arena‘ and is just waiting for you to chime in.
