I’m back from the long and by-no-means-finished NZ summer holidays, and I want to apologise to the many people who’ve emailed me in the last two weeks and have got no reply. Sorry about that. I hope to catch up on some of that correspondence soon.
Having been away from TORN for the same time, I don’t know if this has been said already, but I’d like to say a big thank you to the spies who’ve contributed to TheOneRing in the last 18 months or so. You’ve made long journeys on foot, boat, plane and train and you’ve waited up long cold nights under rain and stars. You’ve lugged heavy binoculars and telescopes around, you’ve pestered your friends and worried your families…well, you might have done that anyway, as dedicated Tolkien fans, but all of us in this internet community owe you thanks for sharing your experiences with us. And so we do thank you.
Simon Whittaker wrote to say, “You may be too young to know this, but “Frodo Lives” was a popular graffiti slogan in the sixties, and I thought now was the time to revive it!” and to that end he’s designed a T-shirt celebrating that phrase. You can check it out at Cafe Press
Yes, and the slogan’s been revived here in NZ too – it’s scratched into the one of the gateposts of the Wingate set in Wellington. Along with another cheeky bit of graffiti – “TheOneRing was here.”

It seems like the LOTR trailer should start playing in France as of January 31th before the movie Le Pacte des Loups. It’s a movie that’s produced and distributed by Metropolitan Filmexport, a company that has an exclusive deal with New Line and who will be distributing LOTR in France. And besides, Le Pacte des Loups is a XVIIIth century dark adventure movie, so it seems to have the perfect audience match with LOTR.
Ringer Spy Knut sends along word regarding the LOTR Trailer in Norway.
Since you’re putting up news of the international releases of the trailer. I’ve been informed that it will start showing in the major Norwegian cities on January 12th, with the movie “Sleepwalker.”
No, my dog didn’t walk on my keyboard, that is the name of the movie folks in Sweden will have to line up for to see the LOTR Trailer on January 19th:
From: Praise the Bass
I just got a mail from SF (a major motion picture-distributor in Sweden). I asked when the new LOTR trailer would hit the screens here in Sweden. He said that the trailer would premiere January 19th with the movie “Eva och Adam – Fyra fodelsedagar och ett fiasko” (a swedish movie for the “younger audience”).
This movie will probably just show in Sweden, but the date might give some hint to the premiere here in Europe.
