It wasn’t so long ago since we started our Fellowship of the Ring chats, and now we’ve arrived at the last chapter of Book One! This weekend men, women, children and hobbits are all invited to take part in our Hall of Fire discussions on a fantastic chapter.

Chapter XII: Flight to the Ford

With the Nazgúl on their heels and Frodo poisoned from a knife of evil, the Hobbits chances of arriving at Rivendell look bleaker and bleaker. However, with the aid of Glorfindel the group managed to arrive at the Bridge of Mitheithiel, only to walk into a trap laid by the Ringwraiths themselves.

We have also seen many images of this chapter over the past year, from Liv Tyler being chased by a group of Nazgúl on her white horse, to scenes from the second theatrical trailer of the Ringwraiths charging through water. And it was only revealed recently that some further footage is being shot at Niagra Falls for the flood!

A chapter that portrays the desperation of the group’s perdicament, with your enemy behind you and the unknown in front of you, we should have some great discussions! And for the convenienve of our guests we have three different sessions, catering for people all over the globe.

The BarliBash folks have some shirts you might want to have a look at! Custom artwork, by our very own Matt Grossman (Stormcrow), graces the back of these shirts – Matt did a great job for us, on very short notice – so check out the design, anyway, and give him a thumbs-up next time you see him around!

“But, I’m not going to the Bash!”, you say? With one of these shirts, and a little time to browse the photos that will be posted after the Bash, you can *feel* like you went! (yeah, that’s a bit over the top…but that’s okay, that’s what BarliBash is all about! πŸ˜‰

In order to receive your shirt at the Bash (or, if we’re shipping it, a few days afterwards), you’ll need to place your order by the 23rd of July. We’ll do another printing later, if interest warrants. =]

For more information, check out the Shirt Page! [More]

From Demosthenes:

On May 25th, 2001 we had our first real preview of the Fellowship of the Ring. The two minute teaser was our first real look at the story and the look of the forthcoming films. This week, Hall of Fire heads into
movie-land, hosting an in-depth discussion of this recently released trailer .

Fellowship of the Ring: Trailer 1 — dream … or nightmare?

What’s your opinion? Is it good for Tolkien fans? Is it good for non-Tolkien fans? Come to Hall of Fire this weekend and share your thoughts. Some of the trailer highlights we’ll be discussing include:

The scenes at the Council of Elrond; the voice of Gollum and Elijah Wood’s accent; the dialogue and how it compares with the dialogue in the book; and the visual effects.

For those who want to refresh their memory (and aren’t worried about spoilers) here is the link to theonering.net’s extensive frame by frame analysis of the preview.

It’s sure to be a fantastic discussion, so why not drop on by to one of our 3 scheduled sessions? Anyone and everyone is invited and first timers are always welcome!

This is the Last Call, folks, for BarliBash 2001! Reservations for the hotel *MUST* be made by 4:30, central time, on Thursday, the 12th of July! So, if you’re riding the fence, it’s time to pick a side to step down onto. =]

We still have space available (this message would seem rather silly if we didn’t, wouldn’t it), and we want to fill it up – the more, the merrier! So, check out our info page if you haven’t already, and contact the Bash Staff if you need any additional info – such as how to make your reservations!

We hope to see you in Chicago, in just a little more than three weeks!

We’ve had a few inquiries about video greetings, from folks who are going to be unable to attend the Bash but would like to say “Hello” in a more tangible manner than a PM. So, we’re giving those folks a more interesting option!

If you have access to a video camera, you can make a videotape of your greeting to the Bashgoers, and mail it to us at:

BarliBash
P.O. Box 3224
Davenport, IA 52808-3224

So, with a little help from magnetically charged tape, you can send a little part of yourself to BarliBash, even if you can’t manage to get there physically. Hope to screen you in Chicago, folks!

Hey Folks! For those of you who are lucky enough to use a Mac, there is a new IRC client available for download…and its completely FREE!

AthenaIRC’s interface is a little like IRCle, but i was able to set things up in the first 2 minutes after opening the program. Its pretty self explanatory. [More]
