am I the only one who noticed the absence of Tolkien related things in the ceremony? Perhaps those running the Olympics are under the mistaken impression that Frodo and Bilbo are now Kiwis, and the Shire has moved from the Midlands to New Zealand.

Am I the only one to think they put all those flags in Hobbiton hill?

I dunno but the Victorian Era sequence reminds me of the forging of the One Ring. I think it’s a nod. But a long shot though. There were very subtle things reported that were actual nods to British things. And the hill with the tree thing they have at the beginning reminds me of The Shire with all the ducks. The Batch really has a nice voice, btw.

    Perhaps the Tolkien Estate objected!

But many of us saw indirect homages–“Glastonbury Tor” could have been Hobbitton & The Dark Satanic Mills could have been Mordor–or Isengard….
