Ian McKellen’s one-man show to raise funds for the benefit of Christchurch’s earthquake-damaged Isaac Theatre Royal is in Wellington this weekend for its final few shows. Here’s a snippet of video from the last night’s show at the Opera House that features cameos from cast members from The Hobbit, and the locals.

Thank-you to RichardArmitageNet for information on images and video.

I experienced the Magic of Sir Ian in Mid-May. He is a warm-hearted person who was witty and funny and had the whole theatre absolutely captivated with his art. He interacted freely with the audience in the interval and came to the theatre door to greet those first few of us waiting in the cold on the footpath. He paid an older couple, who were celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary, the honour of reciting one of Shakespeare’s sonnets just for them. It was a very sweet and touching thing to witness. Sir Ian we are so fortunate to have had you grace our country with your spirit of generosity.
