Pippin Took chat in Hall of Fire now!

January 28, 2012 at 4:55 pm by Demosthenes  -

We about to begin this week’s Hall of Fire discussion. Our question today? Pippin Took: Bold, hard halfling or piece of luggage?

Pippin, as Peregrin Took was universally known, was the youngest (and perhaps most reluctantly accepted) of the Fellowship. He was only twenty-eight when he set out with Frodo and Sam from Bag End on the first part of their great journey — quite young for a Hobbit.

What does this say about the character of Peregrin Took? Come join our discussion by clicking the link below!

We’re done for this week! Thanks to everyone who joined us!

  1. Pippin more than proves his worth when he and Merry were captured by the Orcs. It is he who cuts his rope and conceals the fact. It’s he leaves darts away, leaving behind his footprints and broach for those that track them. It’s he who guesses Grishnakh’s purpose (looking for the ring). And it’s he who unties Merry after they escape. Whatever the others may have initially thought about their youngest hobbit, in a crunch, he proves resourceful–much like Bilbo in The Hobbit.

good points, Michael. don’t forget that it is Pippin (in the book) who represents all hobbits in the battle before the Black Gate
