Lots of ‘Tintin’ screenings do NOT have ‘Hobbit’ trailer

December 21, 2011 at 10:47 pm by MrCere  -

The Tolkien community is, as always, ready to pitch in to help each other. We have a growing list of theaters where The Hobbit trailer did not play with the The Adventures of Tintin. While that film comes personally highly recommended (and with plenty of LOTR community ties including Weta Digital and Weta Workshop) readers here will likely want to catch the first new look at Middle-earth before they see it. This is not a definitive list and according to theater managers results might even change. We recommend calling before you go as box office sales agents aren’t likely to know the answer. Many theaters have issued a free ticket for a later screening to fans who very politely explain their disappointment. For every reader who wrote in with a city and theater specified, two wrote and didn’t include that information so this is far from an isolated incident. See the list after the break.

We also heard from a projectionist in Australia that says the trailer in question will play with the Sherlock Holmes film after the new year. Europe, which has had Tintin in theaters for months, can count on not seeing The Hobbit with that movie.
Here is the list as received from viewers. (TheOneRing.net makes no claims about the accuracy of this list, it is simply what individuals have reported across the nation, copied and pasted as received. It has been passed on to studios as well.)

Any word on what films have the trailer in Europe? (Especially The Netherlands)

  2. Celithrile says:

I really wanna know that too – any info would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

  3. Timothyholstad says:

I work at a movie theatre in Southwest Michigan – We got our trailer placement list and there was no Hobbit trailer in sight.  Seeing as I knew all theOneRing fans (at the least) would be looking for it, I made sure to include it on Tin Tin anyway.  Shh, don’t tell.

  4. Paul Martin says:

    Update on
Hobbit Trailer at Celebration North, Grand Rapids, MI: It’s only in 3D and IMAX 3D. Only some 2D shows have it.

  5. Ryan says:

Tintin 3D did not have Hobbit attached at the Arclight Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA and the AMC Promenade 16 in Woodland Hills, CA.

  6. Richard Armitage Central says:

Hoyts Facebook page has posted in answer to the question whether the trailer will be shown with Tintin in Oz, “”It’s not running on TINTIN, but will be on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol from Boxing Day, and then Sherlock Holmes from Jan 5th. Hope this helps!”

  7. Aule says:

Ha! That picture is great.  That is exactly how I would feel if I went to the movies expecting to see the trailer and didn’t.

  8. Anonymous says:

In Pompano Beach Florida, Titin is been shown at the Muvico theater and there is not The Hobbit trailer.

  9. gandalftheblack says:

Yeah, I went to see Tintin and was uber-ticked that it didn’t show. The trailer was the whole reason I agreed to see this with friends and the film itself wasn’t that good!!!  Tinseltown Lubbock, TX

  10. AxolotlToasties says:

The Rave at Northeast Mall in Texas doesn’t have it either.  Luckily the movie was good enough that I was able to forget about it until it ended.

  11. LaurieMann says:

We saw Tintin (the visuals are GREAT), but there was no Hobbit trailer preceding which was disappointing — Cinemark Robinson Township, Pennsylvania.

  12. LaurieMann says:

Saw Tintin today (GREAT visuals), but were somewhat disappointed that our local theater (Cinemark Robinson Township, Pennsylvania) did not have The Hobbit trailer.

  13. Anonymous says:

I saw Tintin at the Cinema West Theater in Livermore, CA; no Hobbit trailer.

  14. Tucketmom says:

No trailer at the AMC theaters in northern Virginia, even though they said they had it.

  15. Elanor1013 says:

Went to see Tintin at Regal Cinemas in Bethesda, MD.  No Hobbit trailer.
