A Weta Workshop tour is amongst items that are up for grabs at the second annual Kids At Christmas Charity Auction, which opened today on sellmefree.co.nz.

The auction, run in association with sellmefree.co.nz and Air New Zealand, allows New Zealanders to bid on money-can’t-buy experiences, with the proceeds going to Starship, Make A Wish Foundation and Starjam. Happy Belated Birthday Dom Monaghan! Dominic Bernard Patrick Luke Monaghan is an English actor. He has received international attention from the success of playing Merry in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and his role as Charlie Pace on the television show Lost. Monaghan was born in Berlin, Germany, after older brother Matthew, to English parents. His family first moved to Heaton Moor, Stockport, England, when he was twelve, then later moved to Manchester. Monaghan’s first language is English, but he also speaks German. He is known for his ability to impersonate others and replicate accents. He attended St. Anne’s RC High School (where his uncle taught and later became head teacher) and Aquinas College where he studied English literature, drama and geography.

Wellington visual effects company Weta Digital continues to lure the big guns of Hollywood, with movie producer Jon Landau and Titanic director James Cameron singling out the capital as the place to film their latest project, Avatar. The big-budget sci-fi movie has been in production in Wellington since October, The Dominion Post reported today, with special effects work taking place alongside live-action filming featuring stars such as US screen veteran Sigourney Weaver. Landau, who oversaw films such as True Lies, Die Hard 2, Mrs Doubtfire, Aliens 3 and Last of the Mohicans, told the newspaper they chose Weta Digital and Wellington as they wanted the best visual effects crew they could get.
