Among those interviewed was Mark Ordesky, who said that, despite its large budget, “Lord of the Rings” was an independent film. The piece focused on changes in the nature of independent film, mostly about the increasing commercialization of what used to be a chase for $50,000 movies made by directors who had maxed out their parents’ credit cards.
