Guy stumbled across this matte painting while looking through the website of established artist Craig Mullins, a man who has worked on films like Contact, 13 Days, Prince of Egypt and also has some artwork in our Fan section. Mullins describes it as “An opening shot for a film test for a film not yet released”, so who knows, maybe it could be a test shot for Mordor?

It turns out that the matte painting isn’t from Lord of the Rings, but a seperate production.
Independant.co.uk today posted an article about the tremendous rise in profile the Lord of the Rings has received over the last year, especially sales of the book which have soared to 400 per cent just this year. However, the publisher of Tolkien literature in the UK & Ireland, HarperCollins, fears that this will inevitably cause “a burn-out, that at the end of it, there will be nobody left to read this book and we’ll then suffer.” [More]
