The latest NZ ‘Onfilm’ magazine has a snippet about LOTR:
“Duplicaton of the first film in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy starts this month so 10,000 to 12,000 prints can be circulated for its worldwide December 19th opening. It’s understood Weta Digital has until early next month to deliver its visual effects for FOTR, which will feature such 3D creatures as a cave troll, an octopus with 18 tentacles, and the movie’s main monster, the Balrog. According to The Dominion’s InfoTech section, Weta has about 160 artists working on the project – double the number originally envisaged. “I never anticipated that it would be as big as this,” Weta’s chief technical officer Jon Labrie reportedly told a technology seminar in Wellington last month.”
