Tolkien Questions and Answers, Part II

The Hall of Fire is ready for another chat event, this time a continuation of one from many moons ago. Do you have unanswered questions pertaining to Tolkien and Middle-earth? They might be about characters, plot complexities, Middle-earth history, or about the Professor himself.

What’s an ent? Who was Tom Bombadil? What happened to the rings of the Seven Dwarf Kings? Why did Tolkien have a thing for spiders? Who were his peers?

Questions like these will be answered to the best of our ability, so join your Hall of Fire moderators and regulars on Saturday, June 17, at 5:30 EDT, to put your mind at ease. ; )

Another Shortland Street actor has been tapped to play a role in LOTR. From Bigbadaboom

Todays ‘Sunday Star Times’ a nationwide Sunday newspaper had a small piece on a local actress Robyn Malcolm.

It was mentioned that she had just started a small role in LOTR playing ‘a female village elder’. She said her first scene was with Liv Tyler (Arwen).

The character wasn’t named, but you might be able to make a educated guess.

Robyn is another of the former Shortland St actors, she had a long running part in the soap as the chief nurse.

The Official Lord of The Rings website has updated its ‘Live on Set’ RealAudio feature. This time talking with an unnamed person, who is in turn talking about Peter Jackson:

“Peter is very enthusiastic about this project and is a very big fan of Lord of the Rings, and is extremely knowledgeable and has been steeped in the project for the last 4 years and really has command of every nuance of the book and is capturing it on film, which is very true to form. And yet he has a great way with actors so that he manages to capture a performance that is really unique. He is a great collaborator to work with, which also makes it rewarding for all key people on the set, and probably for everybody because everybody feels comfortable that they can come up and make a suggestion or comment and know that they can do so without being attacked or be subject to the directorial prerogative, and Peter will filter through those things and use what’s good, and wither out what’s not.”

You can catch Sean Astin (Sam) in ‘Toy Soldiers’ on Cinemax. [More]

Today, the 11th of June marks the 8th month in the production of LOTR. More info on this coming soon 🙂

Ringer Fan Dougster, sends in this factoid:

3 for the Elven Kings under the sky
7 for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
9 for the Mortal Men doomed to die
1 for the Dark Lord on his Dark throne
Read those numbers upwards….1973… the year of Tolkien’s death! Spooky eh?
