Hullo!

It looks like Gandalf and Company have concocted something a bit different for next weekend’s Hall of Fire chat. This time around we’re going to take a character from the story and focus on him in depth.

This week’s topic: Frodo Baggins: Hobbit of the Shire

This humble hobbit goes the distance for the Shire and all of Middle-earth. What do you think about him? What characteristics or trademarks of Frodo’s do you like? Do you have a favorite Frodo quote or deed? Some people say that this brave hobbit in fact failed his quest; what do you think? How does the journey impact this character’s life? Does Frodo have any tragic flaws or an Achilles’ heel?

Come share with us this Saturday, April 22, at 5:30 EST [-5 hours GMT] as we analyze the character of Frodo, son of Drogo, hero of Middle-earth.

We appreciate your comments and topic ideas. Please send them in to the Hall of Fire Staff. Thanks!

Hullo Tolkien chat fans!

Another great topic has been conjured up by my favorite wizard Gandalf. Last week’s Hall of Fire meeting was great, with at least twenty folks getting deep on the issue of racism in Middle-earth. This one’s a bit more on the lighter side, so read those books and scratch that memory!

What is your favorite moment in each of the Three Ages in the history of Arda (Middle-earth and the rest of the world)? For the First Age, maybe the War of Wrath? In The Second Age, how about forging of the Rings of Power? And the end of The Third Age, the destruction of the Ring?

The place: The Hall of Fire; connect to Barliman’s and type /join #thehalloffire
Your hosts: Gandalf, Nazfyratu, and Tookish
The time: Saturday, April 15, 5:30 EST (-5 hours GMT)

Blanchett Talks ‘Rings’ Cate Blanchett (Galadriel) is talking, briefly, about the Lord of the Rings project. While talking to frequent Cinescape contributor Cindy Pearlman for her syndicated column, Blanchett talked about Tolkien’s original books, saying, “[Author] J.R.R. Tolkien created a whole language. He created a world within a world. My god, that man. He created the Middle Earth. I think Lord of the Rings will be a historic movie.” [More]

New Line’s official LOTR site has updated with it’s newest ‘Live on Set’ report. Here is what was said:

‘Claire Raskind: I’m live on the set of Helms Deep with Director, Writer, Producer Peter Jackson. We’re looking forward to the ShoWEST footage being shown on the Official Website. Pete, how do you feel about that?

Peter Jackson: I think it’s really great that some of the footage that we’ve been shooting is able to be seen at this early stage. We’ve been shooting for nearly six months now, and we’ve got 8 months to go and it’s just great to be able to share some of what we’ve been doing with the fans.

Or, to hear the man yourself, head on over to the Official Site.

Thanks to Neil for the tip!
