Here is some long-awaited piece of news from WETALand. They finally acquired a film scanner ( a device that is used to scan filmed plates into a computer for further manipulation).
Imagica Corp. ( http://www.imagica.com/ ) (Tokyo, Japan) announced the sale of its Imager XE digital film scanner to Weta Ltd. (Wellington, New Zealand) to assist in the production of director Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of “The Lord of The Rings.” Jon Labrie, chief technical officer at Weta, reviewed the performance of the XE, praising its speed, image steadiness and digital output quality necessary for production of an estimated 2 million frames of “Rings” VFX imagery. The XE is capable of handling up to 2,000 foot film rolls, with a proprietary film gate transport allowing 16mm, 35mm 4-perf and 8-perf (VistaVision) formats. VistaVision scans are possible up to 4096 x 6144 pixels, with 35mm scans available at 2K, 3K and 4K resolution.

This is a cool piece of news, seems that Ian McKellen (Gandalf) is letting a little bit spill as to what we shall see in ‘Return of the King!’
Ian,
I suspect that Peter Jackson’s film will discuss such things as the Three Rings of the Elf Lords, one of which (Narya) is held by Gandalf himself. Will this ring be visible upon Gandalf’s finger in the film? Is he even shown to be the keeper?
Gorboth,
by the end of the third film Narya will be in evidence
best wishes from middle earth
ian mckellen
Thanks to Gorboth for the email!

Having gotten an email about this last week, I was wary, I assumed people thought the trailer we’ve all seen on the net will be in theatres, which I know will never happen, but now this from Cinescape. It seems we’re going to see a NEW trailer in theatres perhaps THIS summer! Woo Hoo!!!
From: Cinescape.com
Theatrical ‘LOTR’ Trailer? Okay, we’ve all seen the online Lord of the Rings preview, but when’s it, or the first official trailer, going to hit movie theater screens? According to Mr. Showbiz columnist Charles Fleming, it may be very soon courtesy of an unnamed source at New Line. The source reports that New Line is currently working on a trailer for the first of three films, which won’t open until Christmas 2001, for theater screens either this summer or fall. The source also tells the columnist, “It will be huge. You won’t be able to escape it.”
