The response to the launch of Green Books has been terrific. We have lots of material being sent in every week (sometimes too much!) and we are carefully going through every item. We have posted new Essays in “Moon Letters (Fan Fiction)“… and there’s more on the way. Check out our premiere “Stump the Staff” item and many new things in our “Questions and Answers” section. Boy, you guys sure have been putting us to task with these wacky questions! But soon the tables will turn… Check back for upcoming “Brain Benders” where WE get to ask YOU to do a little Tolkien research. Heh-heh-heh.
Keep checking in, there are new columns from Turgon, Anwyn, and myself coming mid-week!

Xoanon here,
News has reached me via Imladris that John Rhys-Davies may be cast as Gimli the Dwarf. Apparently Rhys-Davies told someone person to person, so it may very well be! All calls to reach his agent have been to no avail, must wait until tuesday….we shall see

Calisuri and I have been slaving away making the fan art section both more usable for you, and easier to maintain for us. This reworking is complete, I hope you enjoy the fruits of our labours.
New benefits include, the ability to see just the work of a particular artist and an easier way to navigate through all of the art.
Hope you enjoy.

Now most of this tax stuff goes right over my head, but I do know that GST stands for ‘Goods and Services Tax’. The NZ government is no doubt making sure that the HUGE amount of money being spent stays in NZ, and I don’t really blame them. Here’s what the good folks at Scoop sent me:
House: The Lord Of The Rings Amendment
Following the completion of the Government’s centrepiece legislation for this session – producer board reform – MPs moved to tax legislation including a special provision to clarify the tax position of The Lord of The Rings, film production.
The law changes close a number of loopholes:
GST on purchases made overseas, but still consumed in NZ. A number of education institutions have been selling services overseas, but the students actually attend courses in New Zealand. The change attempts to clarify that GST is payable on any goods or services consumed in NZ, no matter where the payment is made.
It was noted in the House that some institutes had been charging students GST, but not passing on the money to the Government.
Clarification of tax laws to stop double deductions on film productions with a Lord of the Rings’ amendment to ensure their tax position is clear.
The bill also sets the tax rates for next year and has unanimous support.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has a small blurb about LOTR. It mentions Liv Tyler’s addition to ‘The Trilogy’ as well as a few sound bytes from Michael DeLuca. In it Deluca talks of the decision to shoot the films back-to-back:
“It’s just cheaper and you get to maintain a certain creative continuity, so it’s like one epic story”
