What information do we collect?
We collect information in three ways: (1) information you provide, (2) information collected automatically when you use the Site, and (3) information we receive from third parties when you interact with third-party tools embedded on the Site.
Information you provide
- Contact information (for example, your name and email address) if you email us or submit a form.
- Submissions (for example, news tips or other content) you choose to send us.
- Comments and other content you post if comments or similar features are enabled on a given page.

Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, we (and service providers we use) may automatically collect:
- Device and browser information (for example, browser type and operating system).
- Log and usage data (for example, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, referring pages, and the date and time of requests).
- Cookie and similar technology data (see “Do we use cookies?” below).
Information from third parties
We may receive information when you interact with third-party tools embedded on the Site (for example, social media feeds, video embeds, or forms). Those providers may collect information directly from your device (including via cookies) and may provide us access to certain limited information depending on the integration.
What do we use your information for?
We may use information we collect for the following purposes:
- To operate and maintain the Site (including troubleshooting and performance).
- To respond to you (including replying to emails and submissions).
- To support editorial and community functions (including reviewing submissions and moderating content).
- To measure and improve the Site (including analytics and understanding what content is useful to readers).

- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies.
Do we sell your information?
We do not sell personal information for money.
Do we disclose any information to outside parties?
We may share information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers that help us operate the Site (for example, hosting, site analytics, performance tools, security tools, and embedded form tools). These providers may process information to provide their services.
- Embedded third-party content. If the Site includes embedded content (for example, social feeds or videos), the third party may collect information from you directly. We do not control their collection or use.
- Legal, safety, and enforcement. We may disclose information to comply with law, respond to legal requests, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or enforce our Terms.
- Business transfers. If we undergo a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Do we use cookies?
Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service providers may place on your device through your web browser. Cookies and similar technologies help the Site function, improve performance, understand site usage, and support embedded features.
We may use cookies and similar technologies for:
- Strictly necessary purposes (for example, security and basic site functionality).
- Analytics and performance (for example, understanding traffic and content usage).
- Embedded media (for example, social feeds and video embeds).
Your choices: You can control cookies through your browser settings. You may also be able to limit certain tracking through device settings and, where provided, consent tools or privacy controls.
Advertising and third-party cookies
We may display advertising or use third-party services that support advertising. Advertising providers may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads that may be more relevant to you. If we use Google advertising services, Google may use cookies for ad delivery and measurement. You can learn more about how Google uses data and how to manage ad personalization through Google’s privacy and ads settings.
