I got my tickets! There is one theater in Huntsville, Alabama that is showing The Hobbit in 48 fps – YAY! I went there yesterday to buy tickets because they weren’t selling them online, and then I found out why. They had not accomplished their theater conversion yet, so they couldn’t guarantee to be playing the 48 fps version of the film. The person I talked to assured me that they were working really hard on making it happen. They had to change the screen, change all the sound, install new light bulbs – she had to get there that morning at 7am to take delivery on the special new light bulbs – but they said as soon as they had it all in and made it work, tickets would be available online again. Not long after I got home I checked their website, and I was able to buy my tickets. YIPPEE!
TORn has had a list of theaters up for awhile, but there are never ANY theaters in Alabama listed. Maybe this is why – they just don’t have the new systems installed yet. Anyway, I am VERY excited now, it is starting to seem almost real to me now…:-)
This theater is about 45 minutes from my house and I’ve only been there once before, but it is the nicest, newest theater around here. The people I talked to were super nice and very helpful. I was so determined to see the 48 fps version (they call it HFR 3D) and really didn’t want to settle for plain old 24 fps.
They tried to reassure me by saying this wouldn’t be the last movie to use the 48 fps system – I somehow couldn’t put into words how that didn’t matter because this is the FIRST one and it is really important to me to see this HISTORIC film the way the director wanted to show it – I was afraid I would start crying if I tried to say all that…:-) But it all turned out well, and they have their system installed now and it must be working… HEHEHEHEHE
It won’t be long now!
Sooo….you’re saying you’re excited? 😉 Congrats!
You picked up on my subtle clues…:-)
Yes, I’m very excited. I will launch into my speech at the slightest provocation. If I am wearing my The Hobbit t-shirt, sometimes people ask me questions – I’m sure they ask you, too – especially this one: ”How come it’s 3 movies instead of one – I thought it was just one book?” I love explaining all that stuff – well, actually I just can’t help myself…:-)
