Roy 72 writes: Top UK Film Critic and contrarian Mark Kermode (BBC) hands out his awards every year on the BBC2 Culture Show just prior to the Oscars (only rule- no Oscar nominee can win a Kermode) and he is also a huge fan of Ian McKellan, Ian Holm and Viggo Mortensen (“the De Niro of his generation”) though not Orlando Bloom sadly.

He loved the LOTR trilogy (“watch it on the biggest screen you can”) while having little regard for the new Star Wars films and holding a visceral loathing of all the Pirates of the Carribean films. His awesomely negative reviews of POTC have racked up over 500,000 hits on YouTube all told.

Andy wins the Kermode for “Best Actor” for his starring role as the unique Ian Dury in “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll”. 4 mins into this vid.

My opinion for what it is worth is that he is the most entertaining Film critic in the world and the few times I have gone against his reviews I have always regretted it.
