liz writes: I got home from college today to find a letter from MIT’s HSSP SPLASH program (for middle school/high school students). One of the lectures being offered is “Elvish Writing.” David Nelson is teaching it, and the description is “An introduction to the Elvish lettering system created by J.R.R. TOlkien, focusing on the English mode of Tengwar. We’ll learn the basics of writing with the Tengwar and reading them. We’ll look at the corpus of Tengwar produced by JRRT and CJRT, as well as more recent material used in the movies, to gain some insight to the various styles within the English mode.

John writes: I was watching part 2 of The Greatest Motion Picture of All Time tonight (excuse me, I mean ‘The Two Towers, Extended Edition), and as I was viewing the credits scroll by I noticed a typo: They list “John Nogle” (with a g) as the actor who plays Denethor, rather than John Noble.
