He explains how he feels the third film is the reason for making the first two and how he feels the first one is ‘merely’ exposition, the second adds complication and the third is where all the plot strands unite or in some cases reunite. PJ also goes on to comment on the extreme of emotions in the final film for example when Sam says to Frodo “I can’t carry it, but I can carry you” Philippa Boyens comment that she believes this will become one of the great film lines!
