UK Ringers are going to have a feast of TV docos about Tolkien. This came in today thanks to the folks at the South Bank Show:
“Just a quick word that The South Bank Show in the UK is producing a Tolkien special due to be broadcast on ITV1 in the UK on December 16 (three days before the world premiere of the movie of The Lord of the Rings in Leicester Square). We have already filmed a long, in-depth interview with Peter Jackson before he returned to New Zealand, and one with Ted Nasmith at the opening of his exhibition here in London last week. We will hopefully have interviews with cast members, and behind-the-scenes footage that Mr Jackson has kindly promised us.”
BBC’s ‘Omnibus’ is to dedicate a programme to JRR Tolkien. The programme will be broadcast on BBC2 in the first week of December. It will take an academic approach to the life and work of Tolkien. A BBC spokeswoman told Ananova ‘The programme will be about his life and his writingand about the creation of The Lord of the Rings. It will look at why he wrote the books in the first place as welll as how he created the languages used in the stories. It will not feature any clips from the films.
Thanks to Steve for that!
