Sometimes LOTR info has an odd way of getting to me. My sis (Darth Sis) came home a few nights ago after going out to see a film. Upon entering my TheOneRing.net domain she began to recount in nauseating detail the events of her evening, I then snapped at her ‘I’m busy!’ (ah, to be the younger brother), so naturally she threw her magazine she picked up at the cinema and stormed out.
The magazine is ‘Famous’, the free mag they hand out at most local cinemas. It has news and reviews and photos. Just now I was poking through it while my emails loaded, and what did I see? This article:
On the Slate
Lord of the Rings: If all is on schedule, filming for The Two Towers, the first installment of director Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, should be under way in New Zealand (I did say this was a FREE mag right?..no money for research I guess…-Xo). The epic translation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s tale is expected to take an epic mount of time to shoot, which has scared off a number of actors who would have otherwise been interested. Count Sean Connery and Kate Winslet among the talent who just couldn’t commit. But have no fear, there are still some quality names associated with the project. Ian Holm (above) will play Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellan will play Gandalf, Elijah Wood will play Frodo Baggins, Ethan Hawke will play Faramir and Liv Tyler will play Arwen.
Check out the Famous Web Site.
Thanks to Darth Sis for the Info!

Upgraded Rings Web Site Coming
2:37pm 1-Dec-99
New Line Cinema will unveil an upgraded, multimedia-heavy Lord of the Rings Web site in mid-December that will allow fans a glimpse at the production of the movie trilogy. The new Web site will feature video commentary by director Peter Jackson, images from the New Zealand shooting location, and interviews with cast and crew members, New Line spokeswoman Wendy Rutherford told SCI FI Wire.
The studio also plans to release a Lord of the Rings-themed Web browser that will allow fans to access special features of the site. “It’ll be better than the Star Wars: Episode I Web site,” Rutherford said.

Michael Martinez’s latest article at Sute 101 is up. It concerns Bree and the film. Read on:
Bree’s location at the crossroads of the great highways of Eriador probably ensured its survival throughout the Third Age more than any other factor. The highways ran from Fornost Erain in the north to Tharbad in the south, and from the Grey Havens in the west all the way to the Misty Mountains and beyond. The east-west road was (apparently) originally built by Dwarves, but the Numenoreans appear to have taken it over when they founded Arnor.
Bree’s heyday probably occurred from the years 1300-1600 in the Third Age, This was the period when the Hobbits migrated westward from Rhudaur to Arthedain and many of them settled at Bree. Arthedain was the strongest of the three Dunadan kingdoms in Eriador, and its Dunedain were the ancestors of Aragorn’s people. Other folk lived in Arthedain during these years as well, some partially of Dunadan descent, some descended of the Edain who settled in Eriador (mostly Beorians), and some descended of the Gwathuirim, the mysterious woodland folk of Enedwaith and Minhiriath who fought for Sauron in the War of the Elves and Sauron. The men of Bree were descended of this latter group, and they appear to have been the only large group of men (besides the Dunedain) to survive the fall of Arnor.

Here are a few short bits for today:
Wormtongue in Space
For those in range of the Fox station KCPQ in Seattle (which includes those of us up in Vancouver who get it on cable), they are playing the two-part Star Trek Voyager in which Brad Dourif plays ‘Suder’. The first part was last night (Thursday), but the second half, in which he has a major role, is tonight (Friday) at 11:00 p.m., PST. He’s going to make a great Grima Wormtongue!
Thanks to Colleen for the tip!
