I'm excited for that too [In reply to] Can't Post

It looks awesome!

"Keen, heart-piercing was her song as the song of the lark that rises from the gates of night and pours its voice among the dying stars, seeing the sun behind the walls of the world; and the song of Lúthien released the bonds of winter, and the frozen waters spoke, and flowers sprang from the cold earth where her feet had passed."

Agreed [In reply to] Can't Post

I share this frustration completely.

I'm 42 - my childhood was a golden age of NEW CREATION. We had some amazing IP created or done fresh in my lifetime. We also had great movies that didn't get sequels because - heck, not EVERYTHING needs a sequel.

Nowadays - everything is recycled. Everything is milked to absurdity. Everything is a copy.

(A big area where this is especially glaring is in film scores. At some point in the early 2000's, films stopped having arresting, original, memorable film scores. I mean, they still happen from time to time - but it used to be the standard. Heck - even a small budget movie like 1991's FRIED GREEN TOMATOES has an amazing score. I miss those days. Everything is in decline.)

There's a shot in the trailer of Celebrimbor apparently dropping nine rings into a forge. (Possibly binding them in the darkness). He is missing a finger and it makes me wonder if Celebrimbor had one ring on each finger and the nine rings for men are his nine remaining fingers. That would probably be too silly, but who knows with this show.

Edit: actually I'm not sure, there might be six rings. It's extremely hard to pause it on my phone.

I counted seven.

Chronologue [In reply to] Can't Post

My theory is that we may SEE the nine rings in season 2, but we won't see them forged until season 3 - likely in flashback.

I actually really like the idea of jumping back and forth in time - it allows the show to choose when and how to reveal different things rather than being forced to show them in sequence.

Also - regarding the CORRECT or PROPER order of the forging of the rings from Tolkien's canon - I don't think the show cares about this. I think - as I've said a few times today - that they care more things snapping neatly into place with Jackson's films. In that case - what matters most is Galadriel's opening words from the films.

Imagine for a second that this was what they were following for the show. Here's exactly what she says,

"It began with the forging of the great rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings.Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Men — who above all else, desire power. For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race.
But they were all of them deceived, for another ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a master ring, to control all others. And into this Ring, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life. One Ring to rule them all. One by one, the free lands of Middle-Earth fell to the power of the Ring. But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor, and on the slopes of Mount Doom they fought for the freedom of Middle-Earth."
I think this will be the basic outline of the show.

"So which story do you prefer?"
"The one with the tiger. That's the better story."
"Thank you. And so it goes with God."

How Sauron sowed his deceit [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been saying for ages that most of the things people 'hated' (mithranium, daft elves etc) were devices and deceptions of Sauron. It seems from the trailer that this was always the case. I look forward to seeing how they work through this. Also... The siege of Eregion and Celebrimbanner.

. Also... Celebrimbanner.

But also, ROFL!

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

Excited for the Secret Door and Narvi [In reply to] Can't Post

Narvi - I believe it's rumoured that Kevin Eldon will be playing him? For those who don't know Eldon, I can't express how perfect this casting could be. He mostly appears in comedies (great for a dwarf) but often quite dry, dark comedy. He's a serious actor who knows how to balance comedy with real weighty drama, so this could be special.

The Doors of Moria - I'm curious to see how the doors will fit into the story, whether they'll be created as a token of friendship or made to keep Sauron out.

I think seeing the doors completed will be a fun, kinda goosebumps moment.

Yes! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd also put money on the fact that we'll see the Mithril Shirt created at some point in this show.

Oh that's interesting! [In reply to] Can't Post

I hadn't considered the mithril shirt "made for a young elf prince" I wonder who that could be? I wonder if they would dare put Legolas' birth in the second age? Unimpressed

The doors will be good, as long as they don't put a big title up on screen that says "Wall" which dissolves to become "The Doors of Durin" LaughEvil

Amazing [In reply to] Can't Post

That made me laugh out loud.

That Mordor title sequence might have been the biggest swing and miss of all time - even in a season full of them.

Where the stars are the same [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm looking forward to Rhûn. It seems to me to be one of the biggest unknowns. I think they did a good job fleshing out Númenor--visually, anyway--and I hope they can do something similar with Rhûn, although of course it's a very different kind of place. Still, there should be settlements and such, more than what we've seen so far.

I'm right there with you [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought they did an excellent job with Numenor (you could tell it was connected to the men of Gondor in the future of Middle-earth with it also being it's own thing) but I think Rhun will be very cool.

I don't know why, but everytime I think of Rhun, the images of the High Fells from the Desolation of Smaug come to my mind, mainly because I think both sections will have to do with the wizards being the main characters of those parts.
