The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim delayed until December 2024 Can't Post

Legendary, Warner Bros. Delay Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Films

Anime News Network reports:

Quote
Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. revealed on Thursday that they have delayed the Godzilla vs. Kong film sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire from March 15, 2024 to April 12, 2024.

The delay is due to the two companies delaying the Dune: Part Two film from November 3 to March 15, 2024 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The companies then moved Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire so it did not open on the same day as Dune: Part Two.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the new feature film by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Eden of the East), was previously slated to open on April 12, 2024. The companies similarly delayed the film to December 13, 2024.

I imagine these will not be the last strike-related delays [In reply to] Can't Post

But as a silver lining, it means continuing the Middle-earth movie December release tradition. Honestly, it would feel weird getting one in springtime. Tongue

Optimism abounds. ;) Who knows how long the strikes will last. Current schedules seem to presume a reasonably soonish resolution. I for one, because of the poor writing over the last several years, am happy with as long a break as they wish. It's like finding peace and sunshine in the eye of a hurricane. You know what's coming, but right now can't last long enough.

Dune Delays [In reply to] Can't Post

Voice-recording for The War of the Rohirrim seems to be completed. The delay is alleged to be caused by the shift in the release date for Dune, Part Two.

strikes don't affect english voice work apparently [In reply to] Can't Post

We had a little WOTR chat on the Discord on Saturday and one our our participants who works in the film industry told us that voice work is unaffected by the strikes in america. Apparnetly they operate under a different agreement that does not expire until late next year. Pretty sure she said it was up for renegotiation late next year.

So organising additional voice work if it were necessary (i don't know at this point) would not be an issue we think.

This makes sense since crunchyroll, HiDive and Netflix are still making and releasing anime series English dubs for current series.

I think if anythnig, the delay is more likely to be related to (or inadvertently helpful for -- your choice) animation scheduling. Chou noted at Annecy that they still had a lot to do, after all, and that Sola Ent was "seeking additional talent" (read: animators).

Move discussion to LOTR forum? [In reply to] Can't Post

If we're going to be discussing the in-development TheHunt for Gollum movie in the Lord of the Rings forum, should we move further discussion of The War of the Rohirrim there as well?
