Tomorrow (or later today, for some of us), Hall of Fire returns to The Hobbit as we delve into the events of Chapter 12 — “Inside Information”.<\/p>\n

The Hobbit: Chapter 12: Inside information<\/b><\/p>\n

The party has found a way into the mountain, yet one insuperable obstacle remains — Smaug. Yet the seem dwarves reluctanct to approach, leaving Bilbo to do all the work. What does it say about Thorin’s character that he pushes Bilbo to go into the darkness alone? And what does say about Balin that he chooses to accomany Bilbo part of the way when the others find it beyond them?<\/p>\n

“Going on from there was the bravest thing he ever did.” What do you think passed through Bilbo’s mind, standing there all alone, in a dark tunnel with Smaug ahead? How is his subsequent riddling session different from his one with Gollum? <\/p>\n

How do you think he fares considering the doubts Smaug raises about his companions motives? Are those doubts justified, or is it just Smaug’s spell? And just what all does this chapter tell us about Dragons? <\/p>\n

How long do your topic chats go for?<\/b><\/p>\n

Our chats usually last about an hour, and are very newbie friendly. Simply drop in and join the conversation! However, our main room, #theonering.net is open 24 hours a day<\/a>. We don’t always talk Tolkien there, but if you have a burning question, you’ll usually find one or two of “the regulars” up for a chat!<\/p>\n

Where \u2014 connection details<\/b><\/p>\n

Chat happens on #thehalloffire on irc.theonering.net \u2014 the TORn IRC server. It is based on internet relay chat technology (that means it’s hella old skool). It’s a text-only, moderated chat room full of eccentric Tolkien fans. We’re open 24\/7 (although some times are busier and more active than others).<\/p>\n

There are many ways to connect to the chat server. However, the easiest is generally to use a browser-based client. We usually direct folks to Mibbit:<\/p>\n
