A cat&#146;s presence is required in the play, and producers initially suggested using a stuffed feline. However, McKellen demanded a real cat, so one was found at a nearby shelter and is now making his stage debut opposite the award-winning veteran actor, who will also appear later this year on the big screen as Gandalf in ROTK.
