TheOneRing.net is not responsible for poems posting with spelling or grammatical errors.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Elite Eight Battle \u201cMiddleEarth Madness\u201d (Bilbo vs. Thranduil)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>By Hoyt H.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Verse 1 Introduction<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He fought the spiders,<br \/>\nHe found the ring,<br \/>\nA friend of Strider,<br \/>\nThe named of sting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The riddle maker,<br \/>\nWho walks unseen,<br \/>\nThe arkenstone taker,<br \/>\nIn his coat of green.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Hobbit hole dweller,<br \/>\nRed book writer,<br \/>\nGreat tale teller,<br \/>\nAnd goblin fighter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The elven king fooler,<br \/>\nWho escaped in a barrel,<br \/>\nDefeating the ruler.<br \/>\nAnd his wood elves feral.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Thranduil is beaten,<br \/>\nBilbo already won,<br \/>\nThere\u2019s been April fools cheating<br \/>\nBut the battle is done!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Vote For Bilbo today,<br \/>\nTake the book from the shelf!<br \/>\nAnd vote away,<br \/>\nThe C.G.I. elf!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Verse 2 Hoping For Bilbo<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Thranduil the CGI elf,<br \/>\nMay pose as a great deal of wealth,<br \/>\nBut Bilbo the great,<br \/>\nMade it to the elite eight!<br \/>\nSo BILBO I drink to your health!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Verse 3 Bilbo Is Losing<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To all the free peoples of Middle-earth,<br \/>\nvote for Bilbo show you worth!<br \/>\nThranduil elf of Mirkwood wild,<br \/>\nMay be by Lee pace well styled.<br \/>\nBut Martin Freeman is the best!<br \/>\nBilbo first. And then the rest.<br \/>\nThe eleven king may wear a crown,<br \/>\nBut the Hobbit is world renown!<br \/>\nLet\u2019s cheer on he who found the ring!<br \/>\nAnd vote out the petty elvish king.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Verse 4 Bilbo Seems to Have Lost<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here in mourning we gather around,<br \/>\nDistant weeping the only sound.<br \/>\nBilbo has fallen and the elf king remains.<br \/>\nMy strength falters my power wanes!<br \/>\nThe ancient king of elven lore,<br \/>\nWill walk the Forrest for many years more.<br \/>\nThe Hobbit was beaten by Thranduil the elf,<br \/>\nA worthy foe who treads with stealth.<br \/>\nThis blonde opponent with his elk and sword.<br \/>\nHas defeated the hobbit who stole the worms hoard.<br \/>\nA new group of fans has conquered the old.<br \/>\nOver Bilbo the wise, they chose Thranduil the bold!<br \/>\nWhile a worthy opponent the others ask why?<br \/>\nWhy not Bilbo? Is there no good reply?<br \/>\nOur heads hang in sorrow, we weep in our woe,<br \/>\nFor fans of Bilbo\u2019s it\u2019s been a low blow.<br \/>\nWiping our brow we press on without fear,<br \/>\nWe\u2019ll vote again for ring bearer next year!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Verse 5 Treachery Unmasked<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the depths of defeat I hung my head,<br \/>\nThranduil lives and Bilbo\u2019s dead.<br \/>\nSo weep in profusely I penned a rhyme.<br \/>\nTolkien truly was dead this time!<br \/>\nBut in utter sorrow, I checked again!<br \/>\nThe hobbit who journeyed through stream and fen,<br \/>\nLives again alive and well,<br \/>\nThey tricked the poll with some program (or spell)<br \/>\nAnd now again the hobbit walks,<br \/>\nOver shire roads of cobble stone rocks.<br \/>\nEating, running, reading maps,<br \/>\nFreeing dwarves from spider traps!<br \/>\nMy sorrow gone the joy won\u2019t pass!<br \/>\nToast the hobbit raise your glass.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Verse 6 Message to the Cheater<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A message to the traitor,<br \/>\nWhere ever you are,<br \/>\nBeing a hater,<br \/>\nwill not get you far.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You cheated on an on line poll,<br \/>\nIn doing so hurting both teams,<br \/>\nYou betrayed the trust like a true troll,<br \/>\nthe web discovered your schemes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Today we stand both hobbits and elves,<br \/>\nSome in victory some in defeat,<br \/>\nTo the tolling of sadness and victory bells,<br \/>\nYou must go back to your seat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Some are happy that Bilbo won,<br \/>\nSome morn the fallen elk rider,<br \/>\nThe elite eight is finally done!<br \/>\nYou&#8217;re squashed like a spider!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A Lament for Lothl\u00f3rien<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>By Mrs. Adam Cartwright<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the fading summer\u2019s light<br \/>\nbefore the coming of the night;<br \/>\nOnce more will go walking I,<br \/>\nwhile upon the trees, leaves lie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Alas for land of my heart!<br \/>\nL\u00f3rien, of Valar\u2019s art.<br \/>\nI sing for thee though darkness fall;<br \/>\nthe last of Elves, fair and tall.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Land of woven golden trees,<br \/>\nfar across the Sund\u2019ring Seas!<br \/>\nWill I ever more see thee,<br \/>\nover sea or leaf-filled lee?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Ah! my song for L\u00f3rien,<br \/>\nunder tree and over fen;<br \/>\nPassed to silence, deep and grey<br \/>\nwithin a land, dark and fey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mordor\u2019s dreadful darkness weans;<br \/>\nyet stronger is Lothl\u00f3rien\u2019s sheen:<br \/>\nThe Elf queen protects it yet,<br \/>\nthough Lothl\u00f3rien\u2019s doom is set.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For the Elves pass to the West:<br \/>\nthey are strong; have passed the test.<br \/>\nThey diminish; leave their land<br \/>\nto what? Dark Lord\u2019s doom-filled hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Alas! L\u00f3rien, shining bright,<br \/>\nbefore the coming of the night;<br \/>\nShadows fall on thee by day,<br \/>\npassing is my mournful lay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the fading summer\u2019s light,<br \/>\nbefore the coming of the night;<br \/>\nI forsake the golden land<br \/>\nfor the glories of the sand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Valinor awaits me yet,<br \/>\nalas: my final doom is set.<br \/>\nI shall pass into the West,<br \/>\na future dearest and best.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Golden leaves in one last spray<br \/>\nfall gleaming in sun\u2019s last ray.<br \/>\nFarewell, L\u00f3rien the fair:<br \/>\nmy spirit light wind shall bear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O\u2019er the Sund\u2019ring Seas so cold,<br \/>\nacross Grinding Ice of old.<br \/>\nMy feet shall fly: air shall hold,<br \/>\nto the land of L\u00f3rien\u2019s lord.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Nam\u00e1ri\u00eb, nya muin l\u00f3riendess\u00eb,<br \/>\nMin\u00f3r\u00eb uin nya mell Lothl\u00f3rien\u2019s nosta \u2013<br \/>\nFarewell, belov\u2019d golden lee:<br \/>\nland beyond the Sund\u2019ring Sea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A Sonnet for Elrond<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Hali Ravenhammer<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The smallest speck of starlight and I once again feel your<br \/>\narms around me. They sheltered me when the bitter wind blew,<br \/>\nand we were safe, in a world of our own. You whispered sweet words into<br \/>\nmy delicate, but scarred mind; trying to will the ghosts away with your love.<br \/>\nTears roll down my face and onto you, as the screams echo again.<br \/>\nOur last goodbye, my love, you kissed me with burning heartache. As the<br \/>\nship sailed away, and your body grew smaller, I was reminded of the nights,<br \/>\nwhere you would make love to me, our minds and bodies as one.<br \/>\nHow my hands itch told hold you again, to feel your skin against mine\u2026but<br \/>\nyour ship is not due for many years, so I stand alone, looking out at the night,<br \/>\nAs we had once gaze, at the starlight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Middle Earth: \u201cA Hopeful Farewell\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>By: N. Sokol<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I remember that day, when you and I first met,<br \/>\nYour lands so green, underneath my first steps set,<br \/>\nAnd hilly little houses, underneath your grassy ground,<br \/>\nHome to a tiny race, it rather hard be found,<br \/>\nLike a peaceful village, or much like a nest,<br \/>\nA distance afar, laid far the mid-West,<br \/>\nOver mountains\u2019 mist, down over its ridge,<br \/>\nThe Shire\u2019s Hobbiton, crossing Brandywine Bridge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It happened so fast, the way you told me these things,<br \/>\nBy the hand you took me, then gave me wings,<br \/>\nOff to an adventure, you dragged me along,<br \/>\nThrough panic and danger, but also feast and song,<br \/>\nThrough your realms unknown, of amazing kind,<br \/>\nThose further East, and one hard to find,<br \/>\nErebor and Mordor, both places you\u2019ve named,<br \/>\nWithin your story, they both were framed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Over mountains high, and hills far wide,<br \/>\nOver stretching rivers, and lakes of pride,<br \/>\nThrough cities huge, and ruins of old,<br \/>\nThrough weather dry, and icy cold,<br \/>\nWe\u2019ve faced the evils, and all the goods,<br \/>\nIn caves down deep, and darkest woods,<br \/>\nFrom Orcs and Goblins, Wargs and Scouts,<br \/>\nTo Dragons Gold, and a Ring of Doubts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Every year, you\u2019ve had a story to tell,<br \/>\nOf weirdest things, on your lands that dwell,<br \/>\nOf Hobbits and Wizards, Dark Armies and Legions,<br \/>\nOf hidden places, and your border regions,<br \/>\nGave me reason, and a hope that I\u2019d stay,<br \/>\nThen left me sudden, without a day,<br \/>\nTook away, what I now call home,<br \/>\nLeft me without, a place to roam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">With Sting in my hands, yet here I stand,<br \/>\nWith my Armor old, and memorial sand,<br \/>\nIn hope you\u2019ll return, with more stories to tell,<br \/>\nAgain that you\u2019ll put me, under your Spell,<br \/>\nWhere Heroes arise, and Hordes will fall,<br \/>\nWhere nations strong, stand wall to wall,<br \/>\nAn adventure once more, and another quest,<br \/>\nBut for now I wish you, a \u201cpeaceful\u201d rest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<p>There were a large number of wonderful poems submitted for April, thank you to everyone who sent them in. <a title=\"The Great Hall of Poets\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/the-great-hall-of-poets\/\" target=\"_blank\">You can see\u00a0all of them here, in our Great Hall Archive<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to The Great Hall of Poets, our regular monthly feature showcasing the talent of Middle-earth fans.
