And, if so, what will he do?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #444444;\" class=\"intro\">You know, that crazy dwarf \u2013 king-to-be character \u2013 who was supposed to make an appearance in\u00a0<em>The Desolation of Smaug<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 but clearly didn\u2019t. Upon seeing the first two films in\u00a0<em>The Hobbit<\/em>\u00a0trilogy, Thr\u00e1in II (son of Thr\u00f3r, father of Thorin Oakenshield) appears\u00a0to be a rather key ingredient in the whole narrative \u2013 despite his lack of\u00a0participation in the story.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After all,<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u00a0he\u2019s the one who gave the key and map of Erebor to Gandalf prior to the Quest<\/span>. We meet him in the prologue as the son of King Thr\u00f3r and the\u00a0bold defence he mounts alongside his heir, as the dragon attacks Erebor. Next, we see him in a flashback to the battle of Azanulbizar and after the death of Thr\u00f3r, he\u00a0<em>\u201cwas driven mad by grief.
