Though he made his name as an actor, you could be forgiven for thinking Dominic Monaghan, crawling through the undergrowth in pursuit of his quarry, owes more to David Attenborough than Laurence Olivier.<\/p>\n
Stepping out of the familiar space of a film set, where every move and moment is scripted, the star of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings franchise and the hit J.J. Abrams TV series Lost, is building a name for himself as an intrepid adventurer in the wildest corners of the world.<\/p>\n
“I tried not to over-think it because I was a little nervous about how it was going to come up,” he says, of being himself in front of the camera for the BBC wildlife series Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan. “It is me. It is also an amplified version of me. I\u2019m not always that excited and stoked.<\/p>\n
“There\u2019s an element of performance behind it that is helpful to me. I didn\u2019t really overthink it, I kind of treated it like it was just me and Frank [director of photography Frank Vilaca] on holiday. I feel, at least, that the hosting I do is never really over the top, it\u2019s quite natural.”<\/p>\n
