I give a little shudder before realising it\u2019s Viggo Mortensen, calling as planned to talk about his new film, The Two Faces of January. Phew.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He sounds a little weary, which is fair enough as he\u2019s calling from the back seat of a car that\u2019s taking him from downtown London, where he\u2019s just done a couple of days of promotion, to the airport, to catch a flight to Madrid, which has been his home for the past few years. He likes it there, he says. \u201cAs a child I lived in a Spanish-speaking country, Argentina. It\u2019s not exactly the same but there\u2019s a lot of things that are similar. I\u2019m comfortable there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<iframe width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B4xlQCPozBg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>An accomplished painter and photographer, Mortensen also speaks Danish \u2013 his father is from Denmark \u2013 so it is something of a paradox that in The Two Faces of January this multi-talented polyglot should play an American abroad who is out of his depth in all respects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was kind of fun to speak with an atrocious accent,\u201d Mortensen says of his character, Chester MacFarland, a seemingly well-to-do businessman on holiday in 1960s Greece with his wife Colette (Kirsten Dunst). \u201cHe\u2019s speaking in a muddle of Greek and Italian; that was sort of a funny little touch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chester is, in fact, a conman, a financial adviser who has swindled his clients out of a fortune; he\u2019s not on holiday, but on the run.
