TheOneRing.net is not responsible for poems posting with spelling or grammatical errors.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">THE SMALLEST HANDS<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Dreamflower<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We hearken to the harp and hear<br \/>\nof deeds of Elves and Men;<br \/>\nof Silmarils, Thangorodrim,<br \/>\nand fallen Gondolin;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">of Beren and of L\u00fathien;<br \/>\nof E\u00e4rendil the Star;<br \/>\nof H\u00farin who was sadly cursed,<br \/>\nand T\u00farin T\u00farambar<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We sing of fallen N\u00famenor,<br \/>\nand faithful Elendil,<br \/>\nwho of his folk a remnant saved,<br \/>\nto do the Valar\u2019s will.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We tell of mighty Gil-galad,<br \/>\nwho led against the foe<br \/>\nan army vast of Elves and Men<br \/>\nto lay the Shadow low.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And by such things our hearts are stirred,<br \/>\nto know these tales of yore;<br \/>\nthe dire deeds done and victories won<br \/>\nby those who went before.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So we see then in our mind\u2019s eye<br \/>\nthese heroes brave and tall<br \/>\nwith faces fell and mighty arms<br \/>\nwho answered to the call.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In such a way we measure them<br \/>\nwhose deeds we may admire,<br \/>\nby strength of hand and height from ground,<br \/>\nto such we may aspire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There is a land so fair and green<br \/>\nfar to the north and west,<br \/>\nwhere dwell a folk but half Men\u2019s height,<br \/>\nin peace and plenty blest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They plow the ground, they till the earth,<br \/>\na simple folk, we find,<br \/>\nwho laugh and weep and live and love;<br \/>\nwith open hearts and kind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yet even there did Evil reach<br \/>\nfar to the west and north.<br \/>\nAgainst the Shadow\u2019s fearsome clutch<br \/>\nwere four who ventured forth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Although in height but half as high<br \/>\nfull twice as large their hearts.<br \/>\nWhen darkness threatened all they loved,<br \/>\nthey sought to do their parts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Into a world grown grim and cold,<br \/>\nwhere perils oft await,<br \/>\nthey wandered in their innocence<br \/>\ntoward an uncertain fate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And two there were, who carried off<br \/>\nby fell and fearsome foes,<br \/>\nyet by their wits and strength of will<br \/>\nthey both struck mighty blows.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And two there were who went alone<br \/>\ninto the Shadow\u2019s lair;<br \/>\nwhere nothing good may there be found,<br \/>\nand all is bleak despair.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Betrayed and beaten, whipped and cursed,<br \/>\nthey managed to endure.<br \/>\nthey struggled on through pain and thirst,<br \/>\nwhere only death was sure,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and into malice Mercy cast,<br \/>\nand Love and Grace prevailed.<br \/>\nSo Power and Pride did tremble then,<br \/>\nAnd thus the Darkness failed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Perhaps it was to humble us<br \/>\nwhen Chance or Purpose called\u2013<br \/>\nand into smallest hands did give<br \/>\nthe greatest deed of all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~*~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Untitled<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Lisse Mirelien<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I linger here in L\u00f3rien for one last fading day.<br \/>\nThe mellyrn\u2019s glowing leaves have dropped in one last golden spray<br \/>\nAnd now the Golden Wood beloved with shadows dark is filled;<br \/>\nThe Nimrodel, the laughing stream, has now its laughter stilled.<br \/>\nAgainst the sky the songbirds wheel and cry their joyous cries,<br \/>\nBut in my heart I hear the seabird\u2019s call, the ocean\u2019s sighs.<br \/>\nNam\u00e1ri\u00eb to Middle Earth! I bid thee fond farewell\u2013<br \/>\nMy eyes are turned to Valinor, beyond the grey sea swell.<br \/>\nO Valinor!
