From abc.net.au – Cate Blanchett has won the Golden Globe award for best drama actress, fighting off fierce competition from Sandra Bullock to take home the coveted statue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Australian was honoured for her widely-acclaimed performance in Woody Allen’s tragic comedy Blue Jasmine.<\/p>\n

Blanchett stars in the film as Jasmine, a wealthy New York socialite who moves into her sister’s apartment after the collapse of her marriage leaves her broke and broken.<\/p>\n

Accepting the award – which she described as a “heavy thing that makes your biceps look great” – Blanchett paid tribute to director Woody Allen.<\/p>\n
