\"Richard_Armitage-Moves2\"<\/a> Richard Armitage took time in October to sit down with Move Magazine<\/em>‘s Elle Morris as part of the press junket for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug<\/em>. They talked about starting up a Thorin cocktail competition, what it’s like for him to live in the Big Apple, and a variety of other topics. <\/p>\n

As you might expect, no interview with the King Under the Mountain would be complete without a few moments spared for Smaug himself (and words of reverence for the wizards at WETA):<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one\u2019s seen the dragon,\u201d Richard told me. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen bits of him\u2013most of us have seen a green ball on a stick, but one of the digital artists at WETA who did my makeup used to show me the work that was being done on the dragon. He\u2019d come in one day with an iPad screen of this incredible\u2014what looked like a fossil, this iridescent red fossil with multi-facets and layers and colors and it was one of [the dragon\u2019s] scales. And they zoomed out and [the dragon\u2019s] covered in a million of these scales. That\u2019s the detail that they\u2019re working on the dragon. And I was like \u2018okay so how long\u2019s that taken you to do?\u2019 and he was like \u2018that\u2019s taken about a week\u2018. To make this single scale.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
